One hour from Geneva…
Geneva is the nearest airport to Les Gets. From Geneva there are many airport transfer companies that ferry holidaymakers between Geneva and their resort. The company we use is Powdercab. Their website provide quotes and they offer shared or private transfers. If like most people you intend on staying within Les Gets then a transfer maybe best; you can get by fine without a car at Chalet Chardon. Taking your car in the winter can be a pain – there isn’t much (free) parking within the village. A free shuttle-service operates regularly to bring you back to the chalet if you are loaded with shopping bags and don’t want to walk up the hill.
If however you do want to hire a car there are plenty of hire companies operating out of the airport. Europcar, Hertz, Avis… they are all there. Once you’ve picked up your luggage turn right and follow the car rental signs and the rental company desks are at the end. It is best to have booked in advance. Every 5 minutes a shuttle bus arrives outside the car rental area to take you the 500 yards to the rental car park. Remember what this car park looks like: you’ll need to return the car back here at the end of your holiday!
Directions from Geneva…
The drive from Geneva is easy. As you exit the rental car park (remembering to drive on the right) stay in the right hand lane. You’ll very soon see a sign for FRANCE. Follow these signs and they will take you, err, to France. Within 10-15 mins you will have crossed over the border and on the motorway – you’ll need to stay in the lane signed for Chamonix and Mt Blanc. After junction 14 there will be a toll – currently the cost is €1.70. Shortly after the toll you’ll get to junction 15 – get off here. As you get off the slip road turn left towards Thonon-Évian/Boëge. You’ll follow this road, the D9, for a short while until you get to a roundabout. Take the first exit onto the D907. Signs will be for Samoens, and later, Taninges, and soon you’ll pick up signs for Les Gets. Just before you reach Taninges there is a Super U supermarket which is worth stopping off at if you need to pick up provisions for the week. There are supermarkets in Les Gets of course, but this is the last big supermarket before you reach the resort. When you are in Taninges you’ll need to look out for the left turn to Les Gets. From there follow the signs to Les Gets and once you have reached the resort, pick up the signs for “le Lac” See the Google map below for the precise location of the chalet.
